Ready...set...go
I doubt this is going to turn into one of those travel logs, I can't afford that, and I'm also feeling lazy! Sorry! :( I was looking back at the travel log I wrote for one of my Summer SWIFTs years back (yes, the one I got in trouble on - HA!), I laughed at how I wrote it, and how into it I got. Oh well, what to say, I must be getting old. HOWEVER....I do want to share the tales, and pics, well, as many as I can, so here we go! (Note that I haven't received all the pics yet, so it'll take me a bit to post the fun ones.)
Seeing as I didn't actually announce it on this blog I will now - I went to Cuba! One week of vacationing and relaxation. I was totally off line as I didn't feel bringing my laptop was worth the worry of lugging it around, worrying about where I'd leave it, etc. - Besides, there's so much work on it, I would have slipped into it easily. I did miss it, but I survived - it's the longest I've been without a computer since...wow...9 years. Freaky!
So, it all started with Robyn inviting me to join her (to split the costs) for a week in Cuba. - And of course, I jumped to it. It was a perfect set up actually as due to some deadlines with work I wasn't able to take off the week that the singles in our Home had taken for vacation (that's why I saw close to nothing of you girls, Nyna and Angel, AND GABE - while you were here - sniff), and was rather bummed about it to be honest. I tend to work most waking hours of the day (not sure if that's a good thing or not), so was hoping for some fun and fellowship with others during my time off, but it's not that fun when you're kind of the only one vacationing, but PTL, I know my calling and figured it came with the job. Heh! All that to say, I'm seeing more and more how the Lord has a way of just working things out PERFECTLY (better than perfect, even better than we could ever fathom) and that's what He did for me. We were able to provision excellent discounts from the airline, and between each one of us bringing in 15+ kgs of books for distributions, it was a great opportunity to get in some vacationing and a new experience too.

I did almost miss my ride to the house we were meeting at the night before our flight due to being forgotten (Ha - what's with me being forgotten? It seems to be happening a lot lately!), but they drove back to get me (sweet) and after a few hours of sleep (if you can call it that - who sleeps before a big event like that?) we took off bright and early to the airport and on to Havana. - Oh, and it was beautiful to see the coral reefs as we neared land!
Upon arrival other than being scrutinized with our passports (and poor Robyn being mistaken for Cuban - ha!) they waved us through, and after some rather oddly interesting encounters (i.e. potential hostesses of places we were going to stay at) we were able to get set up in a REAL nice place - a private house that rents out rooms. - Complete with kitchen and smack dab in the center of Havana. It was really the perfect setup!
The pics of us girls was taken on the roof of our place - that was fun and windy - it's been ages since my hair been so naughted as it was then.
Rush Hour downtown Havana - and I'm serious! (HA!)
We didn't do much else that day, we were tuckered out after that, so other than taking a walk along the seawall and taking some pics it was a calm evening. - Oh and yes, I did have a sweet old man try to serenade me with a song of "mi rubia" and how I was the love of his life. :D - That was funny!

Okay so I am trying not to feel bad that I didn't get to hang out with you much either...although hanging out with Nyna and Angel was great! You better plan on inviting me well enough in advance next time you and Robyn decide to pick up and go traveling the Islands....I want to GO!
Gosh, shame on me, Gabe - I totally knew I was missing acknowledging someone I missed hanging out with. - There, I changed it! And yes, you should have joined us. - It would have been a blast! :)
Cuba? I didn't realise it was a holiday destination. Though with their regime, I imagine your lits were well recieved. Poor commies!
Pete
Oh yes, Cuba is a very popular holiday/vacation destination - there were TONS of tourists there!
As for the commies part of things...I've lived in countries like that before and have a respect for them, so I don't think "poor them" is my frame of mind. Perhaps at some point I'll blog about my impressions on that side of life, but Cubans are people to admire really - and though they might be "simple" when it comes to Western fashion and luxury, they've got it a lot better than most actually. - Money doesn't buy you happiness. ;)
