Nights gone by
This is from last week, but I still want to post it...
It came, it was, and it ended. - My first time at our city's benefit dinner! It was cool! - And that's even after being in incredible pain for hours in those heels (WHO invented heels?), having a back ache, which moved up to my head and neck, and was quite the torture for about 3 days.
Talk about a whacko day, first off I forgot/didn't have time to grab something to eat for lunch, and though I thankfully made up for it as soon as I could, I was already car sick by then. We then get to the place, and find we have to do the set-up basically, putting these white covers on the chairs and tieing bows. - Turns out I was one of the few that actually managed to do so (yes, it was rather odd flopsy material), but only because I had this special "straddle-the-chair-hang-your-head-upside-down" tactic, and found myself getting all dizzy, coupled with the aforementioned forgetting to eat part, which found me thanking the Lord for a chocolate bar I had in my purse, as I was getting very faint. Heh! Oh well!
Then came the dressing up - I got to borrow Linda (of Justin)'s dress - this long, and lovely Chinese dress...oh yes, it was flattering all right. Not only did I manage to fit into Linda's dress (yes, that is a feat which is flattering) but it actually looked good, or so it seems. - So fun! Of course, I did find it incredibly hard to bend over without the dress riding up and the slit going way too high (ooops), but yes, it was fun to be dressed up, and I hope I find some pics.
I still need to get used to the concept of the Mexican way with people's lack of coming through with their word. - They seem to say "yes, yes", but that doesn't really mean much. We had 3 people coming, 2 even had us confirm, that was, yeah, I don't know, it was discouraging, but PTL, who knows, maybe next year there'll be a different outcome. - We shall see.
On the other hand I found myself quite usefully put to work, so that was good, amidst setting up, helping get the food set out for staff, being one of the greeters (and even being called Russian - HA!), helping hang up the coats, cutting up the drink coupons, helping sell the Bingo tickets, holding the bingo slot so it wouldn't fly all over the table, and even trying to dance in those heels (yes, that was painful! - VERY!) it was fun, and a memorable occasion.
Oh, and I got to see a friend I hadn't seen in a few years - now that made me happy! ;)

Sorry to hear of your discouragement about the locals acceptance of the Word. Is The Lord using that so that you get close to Him and ask Him how to do it differently? Jesus knows these people best and He knows how you can do it, so just ask Him.
I know when I try to do things without involving Him, they always come out second best, so we need to remember to always ask Him first.
Sorry, not trying to teach YOU to suck eggs!

To answer your Q,"Who invented heels?", they were invented by a woman named Catherine de' Medici in 1533 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_heels#History
