Is it or isn't it?

Last night we did a late airport run...

Aside from the nasty rain (a literal downpour - scary), incredibly sloooow traffic (picture it taking an hour to get through a 250 meter - max - stretch, and up a parking lot), it wasn't too bad. Nash and I amused ourselves with sticking our "pretty faces" (please, don't anyone try to smash our little pride bubble) out the window to cut into the lanes and then she'd chant "I've got the power". - Oh yeah, we were good! :)

I had a thought while waiting at the arrival gate though (I know - shocking - I actually get those!). The scenes from "Love Actually" came to mind - particularly when she says how arrival terminals are places where you see so much love. HA! Well, we saw some love, that yes, but what they fail to portray in that movie is the poor worn out and tired looks all those who arrive have. I must have been bumped into at least 5 times by folks who were arriving, half asleep and in a daze, their loved one or friend chatting to them non-stop, and them probably saying "please, just shut up and get me to a bed", which is why they didn't see this tall curly-head standing right in front of them. (Trust me, I'm hard to miss.) - So yes, I must have spilt half the coffee I was holding. Sigh...

Forget about making "good" first impressions at airports! Unless you're the one picking the person up there's no way you'll look good, and even if you are the person picking the other up, the fact that you look so damn good, smell so nice, is probably a lost attempt, as seriously, who's thinking of that when they're dead tired and feeling like a mess themselves?

Goes to show yet again that one can't take movies as "reality". - I know, I know, I should already know that. Right? Oh well...

Hm... so were you trying to impress the person you were picking up? Or were they trying to impress you?

I have to say, though, I think the "I'm-cranky-jetlagged-and-dishevelled-but-I'm-glad-to-see-your
-ugly-mug-picking-me-up-at-the-airport-at-5AM" is love in it's truest form.

Me? Impress someone? Ha! Nope - not trying to impress anyone (or anyone trying to impress me - unless you're counting the many workmen at the airport that seem to just stare).

When you put it that way (as far as the "I'm-cranky-jetlagged-and-dishevelled-but-I'm-glad-to-see-your-ugly-mug-picking-me-up-at-the-airport-at-5AM"), yes, I'd agree that's the "for better of for worse" love, but it's not quite always like that and not quite what I had in mind. Obviously if it's love there's no need to "impress". Right?
