Help!
I'm lost - I need someone that can give me some input regarding MP3 players. I want to get something small that I can use to go jogging with, something that isn't too delicate, but that isn't too big either, and I'd rather not work with AAA batteries, unless the deal comes with the rechargeable type and recharger. I also want something that allows me to see what playlist I'm choosing (hence the Ipod Shuffle - I think that's what its called - is out of the question). So far I like the Ipod Nano option as I can recharge it through the computer, but I'm not sure if their extra price range is really worth it or if there are other brands that can do the same job, just as well, and not cost as much.
Any thoughts? My computer geeky friends all seem to be on vacation. :D

Buy a 2GB Nano at Costco and trade it in for the new model when it comes out--For free.
It will be unveiled next month. And if you ever dislike it, you can get 100% of your money back from Costco, guaranteed.
Ah Celeste, you should have asked me while I was there, LOL! I could have showed you mine, I'm VERY happy with it.
It's a Samsung YP-MT6, 1 GB. Holds 300 MP3 songs. Does the shuffle or normal, is also a voice recorder.
Best thing is battery life! It uses one AA (not AAA) and battery life is 40+ hours! I use mine a lot, and it's better than the ones that you "recharge", because those burn out after awhile.
It's very tiny and portable. The main con is it only has a neck strap, not an arm strap, so difficult to do workouts with it on.--But can always be played through speakers.
Anyway, just my 2c! Of course the costco deal Jeff mentioned sounds even better if you can trade it in free for newer models. But I haven't had any problems with my little Samsung (it's just slightly bigger than the AA battery), and I bought it on ebay. I did a lot of research/comparisons before I bought it too, you can find reviews online, and it's one of the best, imho, lol! ;)
Hmmm...interesting ideas. The only disadvantage to Jeff's idea is that being that I live in Mexico iPods at Costco cost a LOT more than they cost in the US, so I'd find myself spending a bit too much really. - I'll look into it, but you're right Kristy, I should have checked with you (I think I noticed it on the desk though). I have a strong dislike for stuff dangling around my neck though, and the player is so I can jog with it, so I'm not sure how I'd do with that, but thanks for the tip.
I do tend to go with Hobbyns thoughts...I just wish the Costco option was such that I could buy it in the US, and then exchange it here in Mexico. Anyone know if that works too? Jeff?
What? You're asking for help? What happened to the "Ask Cel" deal? I'm thoroughly dissappointed!
Ha-Ha! Good one, Nat! What do you think makes me so smart? - Knowing when to ask others for help. ;)
I'm prolly too old fashioned in my tastes (though not an old bottle!)
but I use a Panasonic SL- SX430 MP3 player. It's about the same size as a personal CD player (and it plays them too) but it also plays MP3s that you have recorded onto a CD, so is the best of both worlds. It uses 2 AA size batts and mine lasts about a month on one set, playing MP3s.
From the review: Features of the Panasonic SL-SX430 include:
Plays CD, CDR, CDRW, and CD with pre-recorded MP3 Files
Up to 60 Hours Play on 2 AA Alkaline Batteries
Headphones
Anti Skip Buffer - 45 Seconds
Bass Boosting
CD Remote
Love,
Pete.
I'm a iRivier junkie... I've got the big H340 which is WAY to big and but has more features than any other mp3 player (2 audio ins, USB host, multi-codec).
I have heard good things about the H10 model, and there the really small flash based players, but if I remember correctly they use 1 AA battery.
Another thing that doesn't suck about iriver is that many of them are file based, and don't sort files by id3 tags (unless you want it to). I prefer sorting through directories than sorting by Genre.
I've also used the Creative Zen, and they are good as well.
Like I said, new Nanos. :-D
Costco's Mexican division goes by slightly different rules. If you purchase something there, you'll only get a 30-day guarantee. In any of their other branches in Europe or the U.S., you get a full lifetime backing. The reason for this is pretty easy to guess. ;)
I'd suggest that next time you go for a visa trip or someone else goes, you pick one up then. Costco also carries other MP3 players if you're not in love with Apple gear. You'll thank me in 2 years when it's obselete and you get a free upgrade. :-p
