Male drivers - bah!
I finally have something to blog about! - Sad to say!
I was in an accident, with yes, a male driver. Before I start ranting I'm going to thank the Lord that no one actually got hurt, and that we were able to settle the issue and get back home safely, and above all, thank You, Jesus, that our car only got a cracked side mirror, when the other dude's car had a smashed window and dent in his side door. - So yes, I'm so thankful for His protection!
I mean no offence to male drivers here, but the only two accidents I've ever been in my entire driving life (which is 10 years, thank you very much) have been with male drivers. And guess what? Both times it was their fault! The only stupid role I play is being the female brain that I am, and blonde, and...whatever. - They always get away with it.
Someone please knock some sense into me!!
The first accident happened about 4 years ago when some dude was on his mobile phone and hit me from behind when I've been at a full stop for a good 10 to 20 seconds. - Any doubts as to who's fault that was?
This time the dude is overtaking me from the right side of the road!! Hello, we're not in England! Plus, he's not even on the road, he's on the shoulder of the road, and oh, well, he's speeding by so fast, of course the side mirror that he crashes into is going to shatter his glass. - DUH!
The worst bit is that because we were two girls, both Americans with an American vehicle, no cell phone (BIG MISTAKE as we could have had our boys come out and give him some driving lessons!), plus me not speaking enough Spanish to tell the man to actually follow driving rules, and the other girl quite sure that our chances of the insurance company actually giving us the "right" to be paid back as close to non-existent, the dude actually got money off of us.
I am feeling OH SO DUMB!!! :(
At any rate, at least, again, we're all safe. The money he got off of us is not going to even come close to getting him a replaced window, and he'd better not try to come around for more. - I know all the guys in the Home here are ready to meet him with a nice "fork over the funds she gave you and some to pay for our mirror" if he dares, so I just pray my pride isn't too hurt, and that somehow or another the guy gets convicted by what he did. - Hey, one must never lose hope. Right?
Again though, I'm so thankful the Lord protected us. Driving in Mexico is crazy - they rarely even go to driving school. Heh! The angels work double-time with us, and I'm so thankful that in all my years of driving I've never been involved in anything serious. - Only Jesus!
Just for the fun of it though, I'm reminded of an article I read once:
Ananova: http://www.ananova.com/news/
It's official - women are the best drivers
Women drivers are better than men according to the results of one of the biggest ever studies of the driving habits of the two sexes.
The team from the Vienna-based Organisation for Road Safety concluded in its study of thousands of accidents across Europe that "women drive better than men".
Of all road accidents, less than 35% were caused by women.
The study authors also found that in the younger age group the difference was especially marked, as younger male drivers tended to overestimate themselves, while women were more careful.
On average they had 25% fewer accidents.
And in addition to having fewer accidents, those involving females were usually less serious and the injuries usually less as the women had more often than not been driving slower, and more often wore seat belts.

Har-har, yes, I used to have a major issue with his "men are better drivers 'causes they're men" attitude and wouldn't let him drive in the market until I was told I had to. (I guess folks thought he could be more useful doing something other than just carrying the fruits and veggies.)
Come to think of it, I still think it was wiser to let me drive, all the security guards would make sure I was able to get around, they'd stop the rest of the traffic so I could get through. ;)
Oh, I am just SOOOO glad somebody FINALLY wrote something about male drivers!!!
Someone, PLEASE be sure that Kenji gets to read this one!!!!!
You could be right and I can understand where you're coming from although I'd like to disagree. I don't think it has to do with the sex if you are to be a good or a bad driver. The same way it doesn't make you a better cook, nor a better singer, nor a better doctor and the list goes on. The satistics tell us that there are (still) more men driving than women and men (still) travel longer distances than women and this has been the case since the very beginning.
I've had 2 minor accidents in my 6 years of driving and both my fault - I'm a women!! TG they both amounted only to small scratches on the car and a little bit of an injured pride for me, but in both cases the other drivers - male - were very gracious and never made me feel like here I was, just another stupid women driver ...
Men and women ... unite!! And let's make love not war.
You're funny "anonymous". - Don't take it so seriously. You sound as if you're trying to be a lawyer for the cause or settle some major disagreement.
Anyone that actually knows me is aware that I have no "war" with male drivers and ignore the male/female driver conversations. - It was just a fun detail I pointed out from my personal experience.
And I definitely make love, not war. ;)
