Have you ever taken the time to listen to the words of "Amazing Grace"? I've heard and even sung that song a million and one times, I'm sure of it, but it wasn't until this morning, when some words started running through my head, particularly the second verse, "When we've been here ten thousand years...bright shining as the sun..." that I thought "hey, amazing grace for what?"

So I figured I'd read through all the verses of the song (I only know several, after all), and found that the verse right before that is:

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

So the next train of thought was "who wrote that song, and what was the occasion/history to it?" - Ahem, call me ignorant, but I hadn't ever really taken the time to figure it out, I don't know, it never crossed my mind.

So I did, and amidst all the info out there, I came across this clip. - "Amazing Grace" history.

It's a bit long, but I found it interesting in more ways than one. - I mean, talk about people who had amazing grace, the slaves went through hell in many ways, and they sure had amazing grace. - It really put my trials and "difficulties" in perspective in many ways. I never liked comparing when it came to getting over trials, if there's something that really does NOT help cheer me up is when someone tries to tell me that "hey, its not as bad as such and such", but I have to admit, the thought of how these folks really rose above the injustices that came their way, I don't know, there's no comparison.

And for certain:

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

Interestingly enough the verse about ten thousand years was not written by John Newton but added by John Rees in the 19th century.

Still a beautiful song.
